MCFA presents two exhibitions of work by Laura Elkins in Washington, DC

On March 26, 2009, Marion Callis Fine Art opens two exhibitions of work by artist Laura Elkins in Washington, DC, where Elkins lives and works. MCFA presents The First Ladies & Me at Sixth & I Historic Synagogue from March 26 through May 1, 2009, and selections from HOMEwRAP at the 46th Annual ACLU-NCA Bill of Rights Luncheon, where Nadine Strossen will be honored with the Henry W. Edgerton Civil Liberties Award.

The First Ladies & Me at Sixth & I includes selections from her series
The White House Collection's self-portraits as First Ladies, including the recent Self-portrait as Michelle (February '09) at left. The series
examines notions of power, femininity, sexuality, and aging via the traditional genre of portraiture, using iconic images of current and former First Ladies to inform the series of witty self-portraits.

HOMEwRAP includes paintings, drawings, and sculpture, and was created in response to the artist's personal experience with civil rights abuse by the DC government. The work will be featured at the ACLU-NCA Bill of Rights Luncheon, a fundraising event for the National Capital Area chapter.

MCFA and Laura Elkins will donate a percentage of all sales generated by the one-day exhibition to ACLU-NCA. A preview of the work is below. For pre-sales, contact Marion Callis at marioncallisfineart@gmail.com, or (914) 862-0406.
